Audrey Belle Wheatley passed away April 4, 2017 in Lynchburg, Va. Audrey a former Tarrytown resident was 87 years old. Audrey was born on October 24, 1929 in Biloxi Mississippi to Duane D. and Agatha Crews. Her father was an engineer and foreman for Johns Manville Company and she spent much of her early childhood traveling and living in many parts of the country depending on where he fathers projects took them. She graduated from Battle Hill High School in White Plains, NY. After graduating high school one of her first jobs was a secretary in NYC on the famed Manhattan Project. Audrey married Paul R. Wheatley in Tarrytown on May 2, 1953. For many years they lived on North Tappan Landing Road in Tarrytown. They were parishioners of Christ Episcopal Church where Audrey served and volunteered in many church functions. She took great pride in running the church Fall Festival. For many years Audrey was a Real Estate Broker at Beck & Wheatley in Tarrytown. She was past president of both the Little Garden Club of the Tarrytowns and The Historical Society of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow. She was passionate about her involvement in both organizations and truly enjoyed the membership and camaraderie they offered her. She was also past president of the Tarrytown school systems PTA, a Girl Scout leader and volunteered for many committees for the Village of Tarrytown. Audrey touched many people’s lives by her kindness and interest she took in them. She was a wonderful woman and will be greatly missed. Her husband Paul passed away in 2010. She is survived by her three children Lydia Campbell of Lynchburg, Va Robert Wheatley of Tarrytown, NY and Carol Wheatley Dicker of Sudbury, Ma. She was also a loving grandmother of six children and one great grandchild. Reposing, Dwyer & Vanderbilt Funeral Home on Sunday from 2-5 PM. Funeral Mass, Christ Episcopal Church, Tarrytown, NY on Monday at 11 AM. Interment, Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Sleepy Hollow, NY to follow. In lieu of flowers donations in Audrey’s name to the Historical Society of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow would be appreciated.
