Stephen KostelnyJuly 27, 1927 ~ March 30, 2017 (age 89)
Stephen Kostelny 89, a lifelong resident of Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown, NY passed away peacefully on March 30, 2017. Stephen was born to the late Paul and Susanna (Margetjak) Kostelny. After graduating North Tarrytown High School Stephen actively served in the United States Navy during WWII and the Korean War. Stephen was a police officer, youth officer and Sargent for 34 years at the Sleepy Hollow (North Tarrytown) Police Department where he was called "Uncle Steve" by the children in the town. He was also a active member of the PBA, Consolidated Engine 77, Sleepy Hollow React, Sokol Hall, Knights of Columbus and a founding member of Washington Irving Boat Club. Stephen was recently predeceased by his devoted wife Julia of 65 years on March 16, 2017 and his beloved grandson Stephen in 2011. His siblings John Kovac, Katherine Manca, Anna Trask, Elizabeth Schofield and Susan Kostelny. He is survived by his loving daughter Susan, cherished grandchildren Julia and Susie, son in law Ruben family friend Raymond Mraz, his sister in law Margaret Banks as well as many loving nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed. Reposing, Dwyer & Vanderbilt Funeral Home on Tuesday from 9 AM to 10:15 AM. Funeral Mass, Transfiguration Church, Tarrytown, NY at 10:30 AM.
